Purchase contract

The unique identifier for a purchase contract in SAP. This number is used to reference the contract throughout the procurement process, including in purchase requisitions, purchase orders (as call-offs), invoices, and payment records. In SAP, contract numbers are typically assigned by a document number range specific to the purchasing organisation and document type.

The company code identifies the legal entity or subsidiary for which the purchase contract is created. All financial postings (invoices, payments, accruals) related to this contract are assigned to this company code for consolidation and reporting.

The vendor number is a foreign key reference to the vendor master record (LFA1). It identifies the supplier with whom the contract has been established. All purchase orders issued under this contract must reference the same vendor.

The purchasing organization is the organizational unit responsible for managing procurements. It defines the scope of purchasing authority, purchasing policies, and supplier relationships. Multiple purchasing organizations can exist within a company code, each with its own purchasing strategy and vendor agreements.

The document type determines the behaviour and rules that apply to the purchase document. For contracts, typical types are 'MK' (purchase agreement) for single-vendor, fixed-quantity contracts and 'WK' (framework agreement) for call-off agreements with variable quantities. The document type controls number range assignment, validity rules, and downstream release behaviours.
